Memorial Day

Evergreen Cemetery in Gettysburg, Pa.
It seemed like a long winter, but now here we are “celebrating” Memorial Day and getting ready to head into the summer season.
I really hate to use the term celebrate when talking about Memorial Day. To me it is a happy, but reflective holiday, a day set aside to remember those who gave their all for us. I find it humbling. Even a bit sad. When I help place flags on graves each May, I silently say “thank you for your service” to each tombstone.
I hope everyone enjoys today with family and friends, but please don’t forget that we get to celebrate this day with cookouts and picnics because of the selfless sacrifice of those who served.
God Bless.
