Want to get your book in front of readers who are in your target audience?
I believe I’ve come up with a way to do just that. My hope is that self/independently published authors can promote their work to a wider audience by helping each other through social media outlets.
One of the main advantages that large publishers have over self-published authors is visibility, or the ability to get their books in front of actual readers who belong to a targeted audience. I believe if that playing field is evened out, self-published authors can compete — and win — in the marketplace.
This is very important to me! I want independently authors to succeed. I want their books to be seen by potential readers. I want self-published authors to get the recognition and the sales they deserve. Self-published authors are the ones that believed in their book enough to go through the process of getting it published. To me, they are the true pioneers of the future of publishing.
But the truth is, if you don’t have time to promote your book every single day, it won’t get noticed and it won’t get read. No matter how good it is, if it isn’t seen by readers, it isn’t going to sell.
I am lucky enough to be in a place where I can devote time to marketing because I make enough in sales to not have to work full time. This is my plan to help others:
I will be inserting a page in the e-book version of my latest novel Noble Cause with a list of books that I recommend to my readers. If your book is inspirational, Christian fiction, historical fiction, romance, and even non-fiction if dealing with American history or a related topic, then you may be able to get on the list.
I will definitely consider other genres in addition to the ones listed above, but keep in mind that my audience relates to the above topics. If you have a science fiction book, my readers probably aren’t going to be interested even if I recommend it, so you will be wasting your time.
Needless to say, I am picky about what I recommend, so not every book submitted will be included. If your book contains graphic or gratuitous sex scenes, or foul language, it will not even be considered, so please do not send it.
After you read the information below, keep in mind that I am not like many other authors who request anybody to “Like” their fan page or follow them on Twitter. My friends on Facebook, Goodreads, Twitter and all social media are targeted, faithful friends and fans. They like what I like and are interested in the same types of things that I am interested in. This is very important for this type of marketing campaign.
That means that this promotion won’t just throw your book out there to a few thousand people who may or may not be interested. It is a promotion that will put your book in front of readers that will have an interest in your book.
What you will get as an author:
Your book, with a one-sentence description, and link will appear on a page titled, “Books This Author Recommends” in my e-book Noble Cause, which currently sells between 27-45 copies per day (and growing).
Your book and a 50-word description and link will appear on a page entitled “Books This Author Recommends” on my blog AND on my main website.
The list will be recommended on three of my Facebook pages and directly to Reader Groups on Facebook.
The list as a whole and each individual book will be be recommended to my almost 3,000 Twitter friends.
An email blast will be sent to my newsletter subscribers.
The list will be announced on GoodReads and to GoodReads groups.
I will “pin” the covers of all the titles on the list to a Pinterest board.
What you need to do as the author:
Promote the entire list by sharing it on Facebook, GoodReads, Twitter and any other social media you belong to.
Announce the list and send it to your email list.
Keep track of your sales. You may see an immediate spike — or maybe not. I’ve found that everything I do has a building effect over the years. The more times a reader sees your title, the more credibility it gains, and better chance it has for sales. All of the marketing you do is a building block for future sales.
You can only imagine how many sets of eyes will see your book as a recommendation if each other on the list helps spread the word.
Noble Cause will be given away free during a Kindle Select ad campaign TWICE during this period. In the past, this has generated between 8,000 and 15,000 downloads (each time) and is marketed heavily through paid and free advertising.
The introductory cost for this exposure, to run from July 15 through Oct. 31, is $99.
The list will not be removed from my websites after the campaign ends, so will continue to give you exposure for years to come.
I will be doing a new list for the holiday season which will run from Nov. 1-Feb. 28. Anyone who signs up for this offer and wants to continue to be on the e-book page for the holiday campaign will receive a discounted rate. The rate for others will probably at least double because of the heavy paid advertising I have already acquired for the holiday season, which will increase sales and the number of looks.
Hurry and apply! Space is very limited and there are a lot of good books out there! (Let me reiterate that if your book is not chosen, it doesn’t mean it isn’t good. I will only choose books that I think my readers will enjoy–otherwise I would be wasting your money).
