I ran across this interesting tidbit and, though it’s a strange time of year for it, thought I would share.
See if you can answer the following question:
After 1863, in which southern town was the Fourth of July holiday not officially celebrated again until 1944, near the end of World War II?
Answer: Vicksburg, Mississippi, the city that fell to Yankee forces on July 4, 1863, during the Siege of Vicksburg. The town ignored Independence Day for the next 81 years.
Jessica have you read the 1939
novel “None Shall Look Back”by
Caroline Gordon ?
Hi Carol,
No, I haven’t read that – but I love the writing from that time period. Sounds like exactly my kind of book!
Guess I will have to add another book to my “want” list.
Good………..I think you might really enjoy it.Take a look at the Amazon reviews.I read it years ago and I think it was better than GWTW.
Oh, Goodness! Thanks. I just bought myself an early Christmas present. I saw Nathan Bedford Forrest and knew I had to have it.
Now all I have to do is find time to read it.
