I cannot count or remember how many book signings I have attended, but I do know that I have taken a camera to every event — and I do know that I have yet to remember to take any pictures.
I especially regret not having pictures for the one I attended on Saturday at Homespun Gifts and Gardens in Winchester Virginia. Located in a 1790s log, stone and brick farmhouse, Homespun is a Virginia Historic Landmark and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
This beautiful shop specializes in hand-crafted gifts, fashion, home and garden accessories. The inventory is too varied and numerous to mention, but includes pottery, copper lawn and garden art, jewelry, candles, paintings and prints, garden stones, stained glass, baby gifts, pillows, quilts, baskets, dolls, and knitted, woven and crocheted scarves.
The proprietor, Mary Turner, also offers an ever-changing inventory of antiques for sale, including butter churns, butter molds, crockery, books, linens, quilts, toys, benches, trunks, rocking chairs, tables, cabinets and spinning wheels.
If you are in the Winchester, Va., area, I highly recommend you reserve time to visit Homespun for some Christmas shopping. There is something for everyone there, and Mary makes every effort to buy items Made in the USA.
I must say thank you to Mary for a wonderful day and also to the people who braved the cold wind to stop by and say hello. It was a fun and entertaining event!
I am happy to find this blog and to add it to my mega-bblog list on Nan Hawthorne’s Booking the Middle Ages at http://nanhawthorne.blogspot.com . Take a look and see if you’d like to exchange.
Sounds like my kind of place. I don’t know how many books you sold and signed, but if I had been there, I’m sure I would have spent all my profits before I left. I love those stores. Too bad about the pictures. I always count on someone else to do it.
Thanks, Susan. I will get someone to do it next time. (Of course, I’ve said that before).
