Nature Note

Still seeing Monarchs on the Butterfly bush. Poison ivy is turning red and Poplar leaves are getting a tinge of gold to them. This is my favorite time of year.

Heritage Day book signing in Warrenton

I'm getting ready for a fun day tomorrow at the Warrenton-Fauquier Heritage day in Warrenton, Va.

The Heritage Day celebration honors the 250 years of history in Fauquier County and Warrenton's National Designation as a "Preserve America Community."

I attended last year and really enjoyed the parade, which this year will include cavalry riders in "A Ride with Mosby's Men." There will also be living historians, hands-on demonstrations, period entertainment, historic lectures, a children's activity table, town tours, and heritage displays.

I'll be signing copies of my Civil War novel Shades of Gray and will have the opportunity to chat with other Civil War authors. I'll also be taking pictures of some historic sites to share next week in my blog.

See you at the Ole Time Festival Saturday

What a dreary day! Good for sleeping, but I've got so much to do!

I'm trying to get all the guests posts and interviews done for my Shades of Gray "Virtual Blog Tour" in December, and I feel like I'm running out of time. It's only September, you say? Ha. Well, just yesterday, it was only June! (Seems like it to me anyway).

Seriously, I want to get them done because I know my schedule will not be getting any lighter. It is now wood-cutting season and I have book signings every Saturday for the rest of this month.

I'm really looking forward to going to Edinburg, Va., this Saturday for their 'Ole Time Festival. Wish I had time to sight see while I'm down there, but there's not much chance of that. Hope anyone in the area will stop by and say hello!

Nature Note

Shaping up to be a beautiful September day. Walnuts are starting to fall - loudly when they hit the tin roof of the shed. Hummingbirds are still here, but I expect them to leave any day.

Proud to be an American!

I was joined by a couple hundred thousand of the country's greatest American's today in Washington,D.C.

For those of you who watch ABC, NBC, CBS, or MSNBC and therefore didn't hear about it - the march on Washington was called the 912 Project. It was intended to get the country united, like it was back on Sept. 12 of 2001.

From what I saw, people were very united. It was a peaceful event that showcased how truly great our country is.
