“A people without the knowledge of their past history, origin and culture is like a tree without roots.” — Marcus Garvey
It's finally April! Since I have a bad case of Spring Fever this year, I have been looking forward to watching the flowers and trees finally burst open and to getting my hands dirty in the garden.
But warm weather is not the only reason I am excited. April is also Confederate History Month, and I am really honored to help spread the word about this important component in our nation's history. I urge everyone to visit the Georgia Division Sons of Confederate Veterans' Confederate Heritage website for updates on events and proclamations, and to take some time to learn about those who helped shape this country.
One of the goals I had when writing my historical fiction novel, Shades of Gray, was to compel readers who really had no interest in the War Between the States (or those who had been taught a politically correct view) to want to learn more. That will be my goal this month as well over at my Jessica James blog. I will be posting throughout April on topics that focus on Confederate history, and hope you will stop by and take a look.
As I noted above, I will be giving away two signed copies of Shades of Gray and look forward to reading everyone's comments!

Please enter me in your giveaway. I would love to read it and possibly review it.
I've recently been on trips to two well-known Civil War battlefields, Gettysburg and Antietam (Antietam was MY idea :) ) . I've found a renewed interest in the Civl War as an adult and would love a chance to win this book!

I have not had the opportunity to read much historical fiction in the past. I would like to remedy that starting with this book.
thanks
I love historical fiction, but have a particular fondness for Civil War fiction. I also love books that feature a strong, rule-bending female heroine, which Shades of Gray features. I have it saved in my Amazon.com cart, but I can't quite afford the nearly $20 price on it yet - waiting for it to go down a tad!
Thank you for a great giveaway. I would love to win. tHank you

Hi Jessica! Congratulations on your success with Shades of Gray. I am fascinated by the Civil War and I live in Tennessee, which is rich in history. I don't usually enter contests, but today is my birthday so I thought maybe the old "birthday mojo" might bring me a little extra good luck.
I'm a fellow historical novelist. My debut, "Fire at Midnight" was just released last month by Medallion Press.
Thanks for the contest!
